Power Rangers Movie Filming

It’s a big week in Hollywood North with the new Power Rangers movie filming starting as well as Wayward Pines Season 2, new TV series When We Rise, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Three Bedrooms One Corpse.

Power Rangers (Feature)
It’s Morphin’ Time! The new Power Rangers movie filming officially gets underway in Vancouver today (February 29th).

The Power Rangers franchise first premiered as a TV series in 1993. Since then it has continued in various different TV adaptations. There’s also been 2 Power Rangers movies already: 1995’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. It all started with a team of 5 high school students. They are given the ‘power’ to morph into Power Rangers and are tasked with saving the world from evil Rita Repulsa and her various henchmen.

Although it’s been said that the new movie will be a reimagining of the original story, we’re hoping they won’t stray too far from the characters and storyline many grew to know and love. At the very least, thanks to casting announcements, we know many of key characters will be returning including the evil Rita Repulsa and 5 of the original Rangers. We haven’t seen any casting news for Zordon but I’m sure that will come soon. Also absent from casting news (so far) is Tommy/Green Ranger/White Ranger.

Here’s a roundup of the cast we know of so far:

Actor Role You may know them from
Elizabeth Banks Rita Repulsa The Hunger Games Series, Pitch Perfect Series
Naomi Scott Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger The Martian, The 33
Becky G. (Gomez) Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger Empire
RJ Cyler Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Darce Montgomery Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger A Few Less Men
Lundi Lin Zack Taylor/Black Ranger Monster Hunt, The Shannon Entropy

We already know of one of the Power Rangers movie filming locations will be Vancouver’s Gladstone Secondary School. They’ll be filming 3 evening/overnight shoots in the area this week including a dialogue scene and what looks like to be an exciting car chase and stunt scene. Check out our Filming Locations page for details on these scenes and more filming around Vancouver and area. Special thank you to Chris ‏@HelloILikeIt for being the first person to find and post details for the Power Rangers movie filming!
